Forget Tomorrow and Stop Planning Yesterday

Jesus consistently reinforced the idea that we needed to stop stressing about stuff that didn't matter like tomorrow and yesterday. In fact, the past and the future were all things that had their own issues. We didn't need to add to them.

So why do we make such a big deal about it? Why do we obsess with multi-tasking as if it is a virtue? Why have we lost the ability to contemplate God?

Do yourself a favor and take some time right now to just stop.

Stop worrying about tomorrow.

Stop trying to be three people at once.

Stop trying to do everything and start saying no to things.

Stop trying to build up a situation where you will be happy later. If you are not happy now, you will not be happy then.

Stop trying to escape from yourself and God. They are the two things you will never escape and must accept, know, and be at peace with.

Stop trying to know everything. The world is full of information and we will never fully grasp all of it.

Stop trying to save yourself from your past. Jesus died so that you didn't have to.

Stop trying to prevent tragedy in the future. Pain will always be with us as long as we live in a fallen world.

Stop pushing people aside so that you can engage technology. People are infinitely more interesting.

Stop doing things to avoid the tough conversations with yourself, God, and others. At a certain point you have to confront your insecurities.

There is a reason that the name of God is I AM WHO AM.

Because right now God is beating down the door to your heart, trying to give you his Blood. To give you a blood transfusion. To do that we need to be still and simply lay on the table and let the master surgeon work.

Let the phone ring.

Let the email go.

Your inbox will always have something in it.

God waits.
