We hear a lot about "remembering." Especially today.
Remembering means to make something present again. A lot of people may say to "never forget."
What if today we remembered in prayer?
What if today we never forgot the God who saved many more than were lost?
What if today we looked back on the generosity and self-sacrificed that was displayed on that day?
What if today we remembered that moment eight years ago when our Churches were filled to overflowing?
For two weeks we contemplated God. For two weeks we realized that we were not immortal. For two weeks we knew that we had to put our trust in God because there was nothing else to hold on to as our planes were grounded, and our nation was frozen.
Eight years ago our priorities became clear. Families talked to each other on the phone. We hugged our children tighter, left the work at work and loved greatly, gave generously, and prayed with a passion.
Now we might not hug our children as tight, we might bring the work home, and we find ourselves grasping to a financial system that seems to be slipping. Prayer is nice when we need something, but we don't seem to embrace it like we used to.
Let today be the day you recommit to prayer as a vital part of your life.
Let today be the day that you engage your family.
Let today be the day that you understand what is really important.
Because September 12th is tomorrow, and tomorrow is neither guaranteed, nor is it the appropriate time to take the things that matter seriously.
Today is here. The things that matter are here.
Now.
Today.
